LAMPARD BACKS DI MATTEO

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has said that the resurgence shown by Chelsea in recent months after the appointment of interim manager Roberto di Matteo will certainly amount to nothing if they do not win a trophy at the end of the season. Chelsea have made it into the finals of both the FA Cup and the Champions League in a remarkable turnaround fortunes. Prior to the arrival of Roberto di Matteo, Chelsea were in a situation that would have seen them dumped out of the FA Cup, the Champions League, and the fourth position in the league would have been a distant dream.

Even though it is now highly unlikely that Chelsea will qualify for the Champions League through the league positions, they have the opportunity to make it to the group stages of the Champions League next season by winning the trophy itself. They are in the final of the competition where there will be facing Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. In the FA Cup, they will be facing Liverpool at the new Wembley. In a matter of few months, the season has been turned around by Roberto di Matteo, but Lampard reckons that the club should win a trophy in order to show for their resurgence.

“We’re very much of the understanding that if we get to two finals and lose them, we still end up in the same boat as if you’d lost earlier on in the rounds. Normally, we’d be fighting in the league right until the end. Now we’re not, the cups are obviously more important. Didier’s come back into the team, I’ve come back into the team more regularly, and I just want to play a big part and try to contribute,” said Lampard ahead of the FA Cup final meeting with Liverpool.

LAMPARD CONSIDERING US MOVE

It seems that Frank Lampard’s time at Chelsea has finally come to an end after it was revealed that the England midfielder would seriously consider a proposal to move to the United States.

David Beckham recently suggested that MLS side LA Galaxy should consider signing Frank Lampard. Frank Lampard is currently not enjoying the best of relationships with manager Andre Villas-Boas, who does not pick Frank Lampard as often in the past. Frank Lampard has always been the first team player at Chelsea. Even José Mourinho famously branded Frank Lampard as one of his untouchables.

Even though the 33-year-old is definitely coming to the end of his career, Frank Lampard has always said that there’s still a lot of football left in him. The England midfielder has always stated that his desire is to keep on playing like Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes at Manchester United. Even after retiring, Paul Scholes has returned to the Manchester United first team in scoring fashion. Frank Lampard believes that he still has a lot of football left in him at just 33 years of age, but it does not seem to fit within the policy of Andre Villas-Boas to pick only younger players. Chelsea are already in discussions with a number of young players around the world, with the likes of Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda set to depart in the summer.

“Frank and Christine have secretly been harbouring this fantasy of moving to America for a while, but nothing concrete was agreed until now. They are really excited at the possibility. They are flying to LA after Christine finishes the current series of Dancing On Ice and Frank has some time free between matches so they can check out possible job offers,” said an unnamed friend of Frank Lampard.
